Does the 3G iPad always use wifi over 3G when there is a wifi connection available? Has anyone seen otherwise?

I would hope so but YOU can control it by turning off either as you wish. WiFi is faster so I hope people will use it when available. I am surprised how quick my 3G is but WiFi beats it, hands down!

If it is like the iPhone then wifi prevails where a connection is available.

Is there a way to tell which is being used? I want to keep the data service active so I can use it for location services and find my iPad/iPhone. But I want it to use WIFI if possible.

It will automatically switch. But you can go to control panel and turn off cellular date on/off.

I turn it off when at home since why waste power and send more electromagnetic signals than necessary.

You can quickly turn it back on as well.

If the icon on the top is four curves lines you are using wifi. If it says 3G or E you are using the cell network

Location services, 3G antenna, and WiFi all have separate toggles.
