Hi All,
I've another question for you. As I'm in WiFi hotspots like 90% of the time, I'd like to avoid data and voice charges, at least for now.

I've done some research on this and other sites, and frankly it leaves my brain spinning, but here's what I'm thinking:
1. Purchase iPhone 3g on Ebay unlocked (or unlock it), with no plans.
2. Download the latest skype for iphone
3. Get isomnia application
4. Skype should be on always on setting and auto sign in and add skype to insomnia
5. Enable backgrounding on skype
6. Use Unlimited US/Canada calling plan $30 per year
7. Get Skype online phone number $30 per year
8. Purchase prepaid calling card to make calls when I'm not in WiFi hotspot

Questions:
1. Does this work? Anyone have real world experience?
2. Do I have this right or are there other steps?
3. What is the voice quality on Skype like using WiFi?
4. Does this cause an inordinate battery drain?
5. How would I use a Google Voice account with this scenario?

Thanks in advance so much! Any tips/thoughts/suggestions would be very helpful.

My prepaid iphone only gives me 100mb for $20 a month. Thats for incoming and outgoing together. You sure that'll be enough?

If there was unlimited data, this would be an amazing idea.

I don't think he's using the prepaid for data, he's using it for calls when he's not on wifi and can't use skype.

I'm doing exactly this. Skype is my only phone on the Iphone. However, in addition, I have a Blackberry Unlimited Data Plan and run 3g Unrestrictor, so I can make calls everywhere. For Text, Textnow configured with Google Voice works great for unlimited texting with a fixed number, :p
