I just started noticing this around the time iOS 15 came out. What happens if I’ll be on FaceTime with my friend and then randomly both of our wifi will disconnect at the exact same time for like a minute or so, switch to cellular data during the time, and then will reconnect. It’ll do this many times throughout the FaceTime call. I’ve also tested this on my iPad and it does the same thing except my iPad doesn’t have cellular so the wifi just turns off and the call fails. I’ve tried looking it up but I can’t find other people with the same issue. Im currently on iOS 15.1.1 and my friend is on the same. Any tips?

You can also try to forget the network you use and reconnect to it (write down the wifi password beforehand). Restarting both devices would also be a good idea

I’ve tried that and resetting the network settings as suggested. It is still happening for some reason

What brand and model router are you using?

In the meanwhile, power cycle the router. A FaceTime call is very susceptible to failing due to lag introduced to the connection. FaceTime uses different protocols than your typical data transfers because it can't be buffered like a video and it can't "pause" like a file download. It can minimize its data throughput by reducing quality but at a certain point it will drop the connection.

So QOS of and WMM settings in the router along with firewall restriction blocking the ports FaceTime uses will cause FaceTime to switch to cellular. If its a block port it will switch back to wifi when the call ends.
