I've now twice used the option to set up a new iPhone by wirelessly transferring all data directly from another iPhone. In both cases, the WiFi on the newly set up phone does not work properly. The phone manages to connect to the WiFi, but it does not have an internet connection.

Has anybody else experienced similar issues?

I've tried forgetting and rejoining wifi networks, restarting the phone, and resetting the network settings, but nothing has worked so far.

Could your WiFi network be doing access control based on mac address, and your new phone hasn't been added yet?

I ran into this issue with one of the networks I use when iOS 14 came out and mac address randomization kicked in.

In the meantime I've come a little closer to figuring out what the problem is. Turning off the "Private Address" option for the given WiFi and/or "Renew Lease" solved the problem. For some reason, the new phone didn't get an IPv4 address assigned when it connected to the WiFi, and renewing the lease fixed that. This in combination with disabling the private MAC address feature suddenly got me an internet connection.

Interestingly, I then started having the same problem on the old phone and the same steps helped fix it.
