WiFi not working

Hi - new to this forum and in fact new to Macbooks/ MacOS. ...not entirely sure this is an OS issue or Hardware one, so if its in the wrong place...

After years of work requiring adherence to Windows, I am retired and wanted to experiment with MacOS. Bought an early-2015 Macboook that needed quite a bit of work - but I enjoy a challenge. Replaced the keyboard (base unit), SSD and battery and updated to Big Sur and all seemed fine until the WiFi became flakey and then just died on me. Tried all the resetting advice online PRAM/ SRC but no dice. Booted into Safe Mode - no difference. Replaced the WiFi card but that made no difference. Antenna seems fine as well. Have also swapped out the new SSD for the old one and its the same on Mojave.

So...having to use Ethernet, which works but is obviously not ideal. Any suggestions?

You're looking in all the right places, but your computer shows no sign of having wifi hardware. So either your Airport/Bluetooth board is dead, or it's not well connected. Try reseating it and also check the antenna connections. If that doesn't work, you might need to buy a new one.

Many thanks for your response chabig. I did replace the Airport/ Bluetooth board, but unless the 'new' one (refurbished) is also faulty it didn't work. Can I ask, the wifi/ bluetooth connections - does it matter which wire goes to which connection? I think they are where they were, but if they weren't does that make a difference?

I don't know the specific answer to that. I would think that if the card is working and seated ok, you'd see it in the software even if the antennas were backwards. iFixit's teardown of that model might be helpful. You might see how it's connected.

Again, thanks. That was the logic I assumed as well. It might not work if wired incorrectly, but would show up as at least there. I'll have a look at iFixit. Many thanks

Hi - it advised the same as you did. So, realising that Bluetooth was also not working I swapped out the Airport/ Bluetooth card and now I have Bluetooth but still no response to Wifi. Wondering if I have bought a dud one - given the board is registering the Bluetooth now, so must be in properly!
