Wifi on/off Button App? Someone please develop this.

I'm looking for a really simple App for the iPod touch (can work with the iPhone too I suppose) but, here's my idea.

How about a simple app that when you click it, it turns wifi on or off. The icon can even change to reflect what the status of wifi is. Like it can be empty bars with it off and full blue bars when it's on (in the app icon of course). I think it's kind of a pain to constantly be going into settings, then wifi and then clicking the on/off button. I usually turn wifi off to save battery but, when I want it, I want it fast you know? Is there something out there that is already like this? It doesn't sound like a hard thing to implement.

I was just told that services.app could do this in 2 steps but, I don't think it works with the iPod touch yet and I would still love one home button that turns wifi on and off... that would rock. If I could design an App to do that, I definitely would.

The Blackberry devices with WiFi already have exactly this, am I correct?

I was thinking of a toggle app icon where you don't have to open the App to turn wifi on or off... plus the iPod doesn't have bluetooth or EDGE so Service.app is a nice start but, not quite what I was thinking of.

Well, he will just have to tap twice! Its really not that hard! And this is a usefull app that looks nice and can turn on and off all other services.

Until Services came out I was using a little SSH toggle app that functioned the same way. I have to say it was very nice. The icon changed states so i had visual confirmation of the state of SSH access. A wifi icon would work the same way and you'd have visual confirmation that wifi was indeed off and not sapping resources rather than on and just not connected to a network.

Also, if you don't have BT or EDGE, Services amounts to bloatware because it has several things you don't need. A dedicated app would be quicker and more efficient. Honestly, if I had a Touch, I'm not sure if I'd rather have a single app to toggle SSH and Wifi or seperate icons that give instant visual confirmation as to those network states. i do think that anyone with a hacked Touch is a fool not to toggle that off when not in use so I guess a single app would win out for me.

Its fine to complain about people beiong lazy because they don't want to have to tap twice, but if that was what you wanted and a WiFi toggle app came out, would you refuse to install it just because you could do the same with more taps? You used to be able to follow an SMS conversation by tapping a bunch of times to view different texts you recieved, is anyone complaining that you only have to tap once to see the entire conversation (aside from people who want to forward or delete specific bits of a conversation)? Scrolling and tapping once is faster than launching Launcher, scrolling, and tapping the app you want. How many here would shun Summerboard in favor of the slower approach?
