Wifi sync over VPN? iOS 5.1.1? I searched!

Disclaimer: I realize this question has been posed somewhere at some point but as I have not found anything recent on the topic and specific to 5.1.1, I wanted to see if there was a way to get this working.

I'd love to do wifi sync on my iTouch while traveling so I can keep everything managed at home but only apply changes when I know I cannot get to my home wifi in the near future.

Yes, I could do iCloud managed but that doesn't work well with Audio Books.

iTouches don't sync with anything. iPod Touches sync with iTunes. The WiFi syncing ability is powered by Bonjour. Bonjour doesn't work over a VPN. Because of this limitation, it can't be done without some major modifications.

Clearly you know I was using shorthand for iPod Touch, but thanks for the snarky reply!

I realize it will not be easily done, if it's possible at all.

I'm simply looking for someone to either share how they got it working or point to a site that explains it that I otherwise have so far not found.
