Hi,

I'm one of the developers but I'd like to point out for anyone interested, an update to WiFiFoFum is now available. It now supports filtering and logging of networks, making it a pretty useful wardriving tool. Here's a list of what's new...

* Networks in list view now show channel.
* Connected network is highlighted in list view and radar
* Logging ability added allowing you to wardrive areas and log the access points discovered.
- Ability to view map of access points from a log in the iPhone's map application
- Ability to email logs so that they may be downloaded or viewed on your desktop/laptop
* Settings panel allows the following to be set...
- Scan frequency
- RSSI filter (to filter out low strength networks)
- Infrastructure, ad hoc, secure filters to filter out networks
- Position accuracy required for networks to be logged

Also, you can view a video of the new version at the following address. Please note that the connection buttons aren't in the version just released (although everything else you see is), but will be in the subsequent update.

hey maverick, i was looking for a wifi scanner recently and saw your app and i chose not to buy it (in fact i'm still looking for a good wifi scanner) and here are the reasons why:

1) The fact that the app was released on September 4, and there was not a single update since the initial release. That means nada in 4 months. that really really troubled me.

2) Your app had some troubling reviews since it's release with users pointing out BUGs and areas of improvement, yet no bug fixes in 4 months, let alone any mprovements.

I will wait for feedback on your update to see if it warrants a relook. i sure hope it does since i like the radar feature.

It's true there wasn't an update in that time but there is a very good reason for this. When version 1.0 was released in August we finished version 1.1 about a week later. If you view the video you can see this is true from the log dates on it. However, it took from then until now for us to get the update into the App Store. That is, we work on WFFF constantly and the update was ready after a week, the delay was down to Apple's review process... it was completely out of our hands. 1.1 is up now, and version 1.2 is already finished and we'll be submitting it next week.

If you think that delay was long you might be interested to know that we have another application called FanCount, that was submitted 1st Sept and is STILL in review by Apple, over 4 months later!

I've had the app for a while, and although some people may have had issues with it, im pretty sure I didn't.
Sometimes apps do infact work well enough out of the box that they really don't need updating for a while. I don't base my purchases on how many updates an app has had or not..

I do, because we all know there is no "perfect" app out of the box, and when you read reviews of users pointing out BUGS, then i believe the developer MUST update the app to fix the bugs. If I had a choice between two apps that worked equally well out of the box, and app 1 was not updated and improved on with enhancements whereas app 2 was constantly being improved on, guess what I would go with app 2, and I'm pretty sure you and 99.9% of other users would as well.

Wow! That's a long time to wait.

How come other apps are getting released left and right by Apple (fix for bugs or feature enhancements?

I have no idea. The review process is completely hidden so it's impossible for us, or any other developer, to know why there app takes as long as it does. Some apps we've submitted have been cleared in days, others weeks, and others months... seems quite random from our point of view but Apple must have its reasons. If you look on any of the dev forums you're sure to find at least a few posts from devs wondering why their apps seem to be taking so long. At the end of the day it's out of our hands though, if we want to develop for the iPhone we just have to accept Apple's practices and processes.

When I bought it, there wasn't a decent alternative to it at the time anyway. So there was no "App 2" then. Still, it's always worked well enough for me :) And even if it did have bugs at some point, theres none to speak of now.
