I have a 2006 Mac pro (2.66 intel) and I have a ATI 3870 video card with 2 dvi ports. I know the cinema display has the minidisplay connection but I'm wondering If the dvi to minidisplay adapter will work in letting me use the display with my computer.

If you're going to a 27" ACD, you need a converter that supports dual-link DVI. The only one I'm aware of is made by Gefen, and it's not exactly cheap:

For that kind of money, you can almost get the Radeon 5770 upgrade from Apple and it already has 2 MDPs right on the card.

Another consideration would be to look at other 27" panels. The Dell U2711 is an excellent monitor with an IPS panel (likely the same panel as the ACD uses) and it isn't limited to just DisplayPort; it also has DVI-D, HDMI, VGA, component and composite video.

Ouch. That's to bad, but thanks for the info.
