Will 50-60 Watts keep my macbook powered(not charging)

Hi all,

I'm going to Las Vegas for vacation and then driving back to San Francisco(10 hour drive ) and was wondering about these cheap 15 dollar power inverters off amazon. They provide 60 watts continous, which probably means 50-60 watts, and i was wondering if it will keep my MacBook powered.

It doesent have to be charging, just powered so i can watch a DVD or play a game or something.

If it cant, how long will it last off a full battery WITH a constant(but not enough) charge flowing in?

Those power adapters top out at 60W, and that can charge your MacBook at full Bluetooth, Airport, and display brightness. You should be fine. I'd turn off the wireless options though, and set the power setting to "Normal" or "Better Battery Life".

Perhaps rip the DVD to the hard drive... optical drives suck power, plus you don't risk damaging the discs that way.

You should be fine. The MacBook battery is 55 watt-hours, so it's probably only pulling about 20 watts or so under normal usage.

Sounds good enough that it will at least charge a tiny bit or stay powered watching a DVD or playing a game.
