Well i quess the topic says it all.. I have just ordered the new iMac i7, with 2,8Ghz CPU and the ATI 4850 GPU. I decided to just get 4GB of RAM for now, but im having second thoughts about it. Would having 8GB of RAM make any difference when playing high-end games like Modern Warfare 2 and Starcraft 2 ?

They'll probably won't use more than 4 for a while to come. Also, don't order extra RAM from the Apple Store; it's easy to install yourself, and you can save a lot of money buy just ordering it online somewhere else. You can always add 2x2GB later on, or when the prices of the 4GB modules drop go for 4x4GB in a few years.
C64 is absolutely right. Keep your order for a 4 GB machine and then ass RAM later. You can buy another two 2BG sticks of quality RAM for $92. It's absolutely drop-dead easy to install and will save you $108.

Actually if you go to newegg you can find very good namebrand, 5/5 stars (eggs?) rated ram by many users for about $65-70 so even better, that is 2 2GB sticks. I plan on doing that to bump mine up to 8GB, and years down the road when we -might- start seeing consumer grade professional products like Adobe Suite and such address 10-16GB worth I will get more, especially since 3-4 years from now that ram will be as cheap as the 2x2GB kits.

However, the issue were not the price, but how the extra memory would interact with games.Will there be a difference in PERFORMANCE from 4 to 8 GB RAM when playing high-end games like modern warfare 2, Diablo 3 etc

Not to be rude, I have seen you mention Mobile Graphics a few times now.
Is it confirmed it's one way or the other yet?
The 9400M G hasn't changed and netkas confirmed the HD 4670 parts are running below even the mobility stock speeds.
The Radeon HD 4850 is a mobility part like the previous revision and the so called 8800GS was an 8800M GTS.
The old adage still holds true imho & that is more RAM can never hurt. When I bumped from 4 to 8 GB of this DD3 I personally felt a noticeable increase in not only overall iMac performance but in games as well. Granted the boost in games may have been placebo effect but I felt it to be very real.
I'd say bump your RAM if you have the means. Not getting it with your order from the mothersh
p is not so bad as others have suggested. You can indeed find quality RAM at cheaper prices at places like other world computing, crucial & newegg, mac mall to name a few.Yes it will in the future when the prices for your RAM sticks will be allot lower than they are now
