Hello everyone!

Currently, I am running a mid 2010 13" MacBook Pro - 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 TB SSD, and 10GB worth of Memory. I've replaced the battery numerous times, and as good as this machine has been, I think that it's time to replace it, although it still runs (but the battery DOES need replacing again).

I wanted to wait until either the MBP or the MBA was upgraded to the new keyboard and with last week's announcement, I finally have a viable (reasonably priced) option. I would like for this computer to last as long as possible, maybe not 10 years, but certainly 6-8 maybe?

I am looking upgrading to a 13" MacBook Air, with a 1 TB SSD, i5 Quad Core, and 16GB of memory so that it's somewhat future proof.

My normal usage is web-surfing, photos, Pages/Numbers, and the occasional video editing in iMovie. I've noticed that the latest iPhones shoot in 4K, but even though I would still only be using it occasionally for video editing in 4k, is the MBA that I'm looking at going to be enough in the future?

Trying to decide the exact same thing except I’m upgrading from a 2011 15” MBP. I think the CPU is up to the task but not sure about the GPU. I’m ok with going down to a 13” since I often use an external display. Tasks are similar with the occasional GoPro or iPhone video.

Only other options are the 16” MBP or wait on the 13” getting a new keyboard.

I am also in basically the same boat - MBP 2012. I'm thinking about getting the same MBA configuration. I don't know about your 4k question but it seems like a good machine.

Seeing as how many people edit 4K video on the phones they used to shoot the footage, I'm guessing the new MacBook Air should be able to handle it. For what it's worth, I can edit 4K video fine on my 2019 model.

In any case, make sure you put the machine through its paces when you get it. Apple has a 14-day no-questions-asked customer satisfaction policy. Use it.

I upgraded from a 2013 13" MBP to a 2020 i7 16GB Air, and iMovie is considerably slower on the Air - beachball all the time, and almost unusable.

If I'm doing something seriously wrong I'd love to know what it is! Otherwise I'm considering returning it within the 14 day period which runs out in a couple of days...
