Will a new mac pro be coming out? Could they discontinue it? How long would it be before they update the mac pro? Has intel made any new Xeon CPU? Should I not buy one now?

new mac pro

If anyone tells you it will be coming out soon, I would take that with a grain of salt.... nobody knows...

Buying

I agree don't buy now. If an update comes it should be awesome since its been so long. Whatever they add should have Thunderbolt in it, better video, and the latest CPU. If they kill it and you really want one, I'm sure eBay will ave lots as some Pros will have to switch platforms if they really need an expandable system.

About new MacPros

Apple showed on their website three new case studies about workflows for the FCPX from diffrent post-production houses. I noticed that none of them are working on MacPros, just iMacs.

As pointed out in the other threads about this, this isn't new. Apple has done cases studies and ads for FCP without the Mac Pro before. It is a FCPX case study; not a Mac Pro one. If folks need to scale up to bigger jobs than covered by the case studies it isn't a huge inference to put a bigger Mac (i.e., Mac Pro) into the mix.

If anything Apple needs to pop the "FCPX requires a Mac Pro to be useful" FUD bubble that drifts around on the Internet. That's an equally good reason to leave it out of those. That FUD damages FCPX.

Those case studies don't have much if any predicative power specifically concerning the Mac Pro.

Apple has let this model sit for so long, it's hard to imagine what may happen. What is known, is the fact that Apple's riding high on fat profits & astronomical sales of iOS devices. Increases in computer sales are being credited to the "halo effect" of Apple's success.

With much speculation regarding the eventual convergence of iOS & OS X, the future seems bleak when it comes to Apple's continuation of the Mac Pro. Or any professional model for that matter. Now hyper focused on entertaining little devices in their self proclaimed "Post PC Era" they've got that formula down cold.

I'd like nothing better than to see Apple keep OS X & iOS separate, refining each to be the best in the business. Yet it's far too late for that as we're already witnessing.

Apple is firmly entrenched in the Walmart / Best Buy / Super Volume Retail Business. Profits continue to skyrocket with no sign of abating.

I'd say the Mac Pro is either going to get lip service & and a minor bump just to keep Apple from taking any heat, or worse... silently removed from the lineup.

That's *my guess* regarding the model I've used for years quite happily.
