Apologies if this is the wrong place for this or it’s a basic question - I’ve googled but can’t find the answer. If I rip a cd at a high bitrate (say, Apple Lossless) and load it directly to my iPhone 11 Pro, then send via Airplay to an Airport Express connected via optical to an external DAC, will it stream the song at the the ripped bitrate or downsample it?

As a bonus question, is there any way to make this work for owned/ripped music if I use Apple Music for streaming, or is it wiser to keep streaming to a separate app? Thanks.

Airplay is an ALAC encode at 44100 Hz.

As far as the "bonus question" goes, I'm not sure what you mean? If you sync lossless files from itunes/music for mac, those lossless files will be on your phone in addition to any mid-fi AAC stuff you stream from Apple music
