Will an iMac suit me?

After seeing how much it would cost to build a pc that would somewhat compete with an imac, the imac's price became more appealing.

It would mainly be for design and such seeing as I have an hp laptop for school. The imac would more so be an office machine. Well, not office, makeshift office in my basement. I would also like to use the imac for light photo editing and light video editing.

Many people will tell you to only get the 24 inch model since it has a 'better' screen. These are people who apparently do not know how to calibrate the screen properly. If you do get the 20 incher, make sure to use 2.2 gamma and native white point....

Either way, the iMac should suite your needs quite well.

Utter nonsense. The 24 is a superior panel, with better viewing angles and less washed out colours. That's quite clear. That the 20 is good enough is a different matter.

You have already said you are saving for teh 2.66Ghz iMac, and that is the one I would recommend to you. It's great-looking and great value. Just save then.

As said, the 24-inch is a higher-quality screen, with a better viewing angle, and better brightness. The 20-inch can be calibrated, but that doesn't stop the 24-inch from being a higher quality screen.

go for a 24" 3.06ghz . actually go for what you can afford. but any of them will be sufficient. i was lucky to get a HUGE discount of in the apple store. but even if you go for the £799 one, the basic one, you will not be disappointed. my uni has gots labs with brand new entry level iMacs.

and they run very well, even with only 1gb of ram. LOL, its strange walking into different rooms, each with 50 iMacs. and they are very quite as well. you can not notice you have one switched on if you have it in the same room as you sleep.

Yes, it would suit you great.
I have an imac, the spec is in my signature, but yeah I try a bit of design now and then and when I do its really good, this may not appeal you but what I love about it is when I'm trying to edit pictures I can listen to music, download be on MSN and a few other applications without any jamming or anything. Now I could never do that on a PC!
