I'm thinking of purchasing an ipad.

i don't really use the iphone too too much. Cell phones are not permitted at work. I use wi-fi to surf with my iphone all of the time.

I use use the ipod aspect of the iphone in the car. and maps is nice every once and a while while out and about.

Have any of you given up your iphone after your ipad purchase?

I carry a Blackberry supplied by my employer and use it for phone calls, now with my iPad, I have considered just canceling my personal line and retiring my iPhone.

This will likely be tested once iPhone 4 is out.

I doubt, I have an iPhone, and will want to get the new iPhone. The iPad is just to big to replace my phone, that sits nicely in my pocket. however, I like the portability and screen size of the iPad.

You can almost replace the phone completely with an ipad. The Whistle app gives you incoming and outgoing calls via sip, and works pretty nicely, they don't have bluetooth headset support yet but you can use a regular wired headset or just use the mic/speaker. Add google voice to this and it becomes that much better.

The only thing missing is voicemail, but I'm still playing with google voice to see if I can get that to work. No I don't plan on giving up my iphone, I just like to tinker.

To quote Stephen Colbert "the iPad is just like the iPhone because you can't make calls with it."

It is replacing my need for getting an iPhone. Was planning on getting an iPhone this year, but am just getting an iPad instead and keeping my crappy ancient phone (which is about 90% pocket watch and 10% "I'm on my way home, honey, do we need milk?" device). Cheap cell and 3G iPad is a FAR better combo for me (function-wise and budget-wise) than an iPhone.
