This is from the O2 site

Already an O2 Pay & Go customer
If you're an O2 Pay & Go customer you can use your current O2 Pay & Go SIM card with the original 2G iPhone. To make the most of the iPhone features, you can add the O2 Web and Wi-Fi Bolt On for £10 a month giving you unlimited browsing and Wi-Fi access**. To add the Bolt On you'll need to either call 2425 free or text WWW to 21300 free. The only thing that does not work with this option is the Visual Voicemail.

I already use my O2 PAYG sim in my unlocked 1.1.4 iPhone in exactly this way but this sounds like it should work on a legit 2G iPhone now.

Soooo... I'm wondering if I upgrade to the new 2.0 software whether it will work without the need to jailbreak/unlock. Anyone tried it?

I'd be willing to try it as long as I knew I could go back to my unlocked 1.1.4 state if it didn't work! But of course that's the trick isn't it:rolleyes:

I've just tried this and I'm getting the 'The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported' message

Damn! Maybe you need a special iPhone PAYG sim then.

What did you use iTunes 7.7? Mac or PC? Did you use the official 2.0 software (didn't know it was out yet)?

Sorry for questions BlueWave but also was your iPhone ever officially activated on a contract or not. Mine never was. I'm just wondering if this might be the reason. Also let me know if you can go back 1.1.4 OK.

You're braver than me!;)

I have just gone out and bought a regular O2 PAYG 3G SIM from a store, and can CONFIRM that this works fine - I have updated to the new software on my original iPhone and my O2 PAYG SIM card goes through the activation process fine!

I'd be interested to know if it will work with a 'simplicity' sim only pay monthly sim as well as PAYG sims.
Anyone know or able to test?

iPhone (2G)

does that mean if my unlocked 1.1.4 iphone is restored to its factory setting via iTunes, i can then inset an o2 pay and go sim card and then activate it using the instuctions on the o2 website?
