I was wondering if my old att blue sim will work with the iphone 3g, as ive been searching all over google, and still haven't found a clear answer. well anyways i've already tried putting the blue sim into the iphone but i do not get any service. any solutions?

if that sim is activated and working on your other phone it should work but due to it being an old sim it might need to be updated since it receives newer tower and 3g but hey i could be wrong.

The phone function will work. Basically it will do the same thing as your old phone that had the AT&T sim in terms of cell phone connectivity. Your sim is attached to a phone number and a specific plan. iPhone requires a specific plan in order to get certain services working, such as 3G, as stated by polishmacuser.

In short, unless your plan for the sim already included the $30/month unlimited data package, you would still be able to call on your iPhone but you will not get services like visual voicemail and 3G internet connectivity (or perhaps internet connectivity at all, apart from wifi).

OMG!
Just go to your local AT&T Store and tell them to replace your old sim with a new one. It's free or will cost you very little money.
Why are you using an unlocked iPhone?

the problem is, since my plan is a dealer plan (from old att), i cannot switch to a 3g sim unless i upgrade. but that is what im avoiding to do...

FYI... this still works on the iPhone 2g running 3.0 after switching the default AT&T carrier.plist with the unknown bundles' carrier.plist and setting it as the APN to "proxy".

This also works on an iPhone 3G running 3.0 and unlocked via ultrasn0w. Even with an AT&T blue sim it switches to 3G service. Verified 3g speeds with the speedtest.net application.
