Will an OS X Recovery Updates have to re-download via App Store after a clean install?

The Recovery Partition only gets updated to the latest version if you run a full installer like when you upgrade to a new major version from Yosemite to El Capitan for example or do the updates by downloading and running the full installer again. So you might got back to 10.11 or 10.11.1 and all updates were gone.

Edit:

On my MBP I once was already on a late beta of 10.11.2 and after a clean recovery install I got back to some early beta of 10.11.0.

Did you upgrade directly to 10.11.2 from Yosemite or older? Some updates like iTunes and the bugfixes for the recovery system, that came out after the first full installation of 10.11.2 was made, won't be integrated in the recovery installer.

Also if you update soon to 10.11.3 and install OS X new again from the Recovery Partition you will get back to 10.11.2.

I don't know if the same happens when you just install OS X again to fix something and don't erase the disk before.

When it's a new MBP that came with El Capitan, you always get the current version by Internet Recovery.

I just mounted the recovery partition on my iMac. There is still the installer for some 10.11.2 Beta on it and I am now on 10.11.4 Beta 1.

Maybe it was Internet Recovery. Then you get the latest version, but not always with every extra updates. Some of them may be implemented in the next version.

That would also explain why it took much longer, because it downloads the whole Recovery Partition and OS again.

Did you see a spinning globe and had to choose an Internet connection before it startet?
