Will Apple change the aspect ratio of iPad?

lots of talk about pro updates bringing no bezels, people wanting 11-11.5” displays in the chassis of the 10.5. But what about aspect ratio?

If you take the current 10.5”, it already has pretty slim side bezels. If you slimmed down a lot, you’d probably have to make the screen taller as the top/bottom bezels are much larger than the sides. They’ve done it with the IPhone X, but the iPads have been pretty nicely fixed on 4:3 since launch, and they only recently adjusted the screen size with the 10.5 so would they change it again so soon, and require developers to support multiple aspect ratios (for pro vs non-pro)

I just can't see it, the 4:3 ratio makes so much sense for general day to day tablet usage, all the iOS standards are set in stone (pretty much) for that aspect ratio. Macbooks are all 16:10, the only one different was the 11.6'' Air at 16:9.

At some stage if Mac OS and iOS are to get app parity the 4:3 vs 16:10 debate is one that Apple need to resolve as software can't be stretched to fit or scaled. Funnily enough Apple did used to sell 4:3 ratio laptops - I have one, the iBook G4. Possibly they'll change Macbooks to be 4:3 in future?

I think it's possible but I'm dreading it and will likely buy a 512GB Pro 10.5 LTE if Apple makes the switch this year.

I don’t see it happening and fail to see advantages with a more widescreen device, except for movie consumption.

That's true for phones, but not for tablets. Phones need to go more widescreen because the screen size is increasing but the width still has to be narrow enough to be cupped in one hand. That restriction doesn't apply to tablets.

I don't believe that the aspect ratio of the iPad will change until/unless Apple does something dramatic with regard to iOS and macOS integration.

In general movie watching on a 16:9 display, 3:2 or 16:10 display is much better but other wise the ipads aspect ratio is quite convenient. I'm glad I don't have to see triple wide black bars on my tab s4 like my ipad pro 10.5 when watching movies; only the most minimum black bars show up on the tab s4 due to its aspect ratio.

Yes, they already changed the Aspect Ratio from 4:3 (1.33:1) to 1.43:1 It is less taller, and slightly wider. Making it more closer to 16:9 (witch is 1.78:1)
