Will Apple Drop MobileMe as we know it?

If Apple cannot make push work as they explained and 'showed' us, will they drop it, water it down to a .mac version?

Each week that goes by with no major fix tarnishes their reputation. There may come a time where they should throw in the towel and just say they couldn't do it. Give back the $$ to all who have paid for the service and offer a free service that they can slowly upgrade.

Won't happen. Already took too much of a black eye. I haven't had any real problems with the service besides the first few days.

They wont make it free. It was a paid service long before they offered push, so even if they scrapped push (which they wont) it still wouldn't be free.

I actually hope they do not make it free. Do not like advertising paid for products. I would prefer that they make it a premier service at a reasonable price. I used Yahoo Push Email for my v1 iPhone for the 1st year (and it took about 3 months to get working correctly). After a while I decided to pay the $20 per year for the Mail Plus Version (no advertising and added features). I would been happy to pay even more for OTA Sync of Calendar and Contacts. Of course if they had that I would not be using MobileMe now. Maybe that is why Yahoo is not doing so well. Really lost opportunity.

I don't think they will.

Technically, what they haven't implemented is the simplest thing to implement out of the whole service.

I would expect some serious work on the service by the end of the year (and they've already made a few noticeable changes).

They've bought themselves more time to fix things with the latest 60 days of free service. They won't get rid of it and they won't start offering it for free.

They'll just fix it and make it work like it's supposed to. I'm not so sure it will even take the rest of the year to do that.

If so, that's still 4 months away. Plenty of time to make improvements.

I bet we will see a slide or two on MobileMe's progress at the next MWSF.
