I'm really annoyed to find out mobileme doesn't fully using support custom "from" address, especially from the iphone. Without this ability I can't really see keeping my account since there is no way I want people sending my emails to a .me address. Is there any likelihood that apple will see the light in the near future and enable this basic feature? I've been reading some of the workarounds posted here, including paid relay services, etc...but none of them sound very elegant.

Are there any alternative online calendars apps out there that will sync with the iphone and outlook etc in a seamless way? Since the mail officially sucks, the calendar is really the only part I can use.

Thanks,
Mitch

I'm with you... if they don't figure out a way for me to reply from my business email on the me.com website... I won't be forking over $100. It's completely unacceptable and almost offensive that they would have the audacity to expect people to change their email to a me.com address.

I wouldn't be so peeved if they wouldn't have so blatantly marketed this to windows users who very doubtfully already have a @me.com email.

There is a work around

Hi

There is a work around to your problem, that involves setting up fake gmail accounts, where you can use the gmail smtp server with a custom from address, and then disable checking that account for incoming on the iPhone.

Do a search, it is thoroughly explained in several posts, with a step by step.

Hope this helps you out! Cheers!

That is a partial workaround. It works from the iPhone but there is no way to customize the from address via the web client.

I would like to hope they do as some of the features are nice. I was going to use it but signed up for a hosted exchange server instead.

Many people seem to want it, and it's a pretty obvious feature. The only question becomes whether Apple will deliver.

I'm cautiously optimistic that they'll come around eventually. Until then, I'm using MM only for calendar and contacts.
