Gaming is a tough industry to crack into, I would imagine. If I'm not mistaken, Microsoft is STILL losing money on the Xbox.

To get into console gaming you need massive amounts of capital and TONS of partnerships (and Apple doesn't have a great track record with partnering).

And once you go through all that trouble of creating a game console and lining up developers to make games for it..... you find out that gaming isn't really that big of a market anyway!

Did you watch the keynote where Jobs unveiled the iPhone? He broke down the sales figures for various industries like computers, games, mobile phones, etc. Games was by far the smallest one. Phones were enormous.

Apple are getting into gaming...and they're doing it very smartly too by not confronting desktop games/Lifestyle consoles head on...

I was thinking of PC type gaming.

apple has already pretty much said FU for for gaming.

They cripple there main stream system with low end graphic cards and to even get a descent card one has to buy a mac pro. Until apple allows users to upgrade graphic cards in the Consumer level computers they do not care.

Add into the fact apple never went after gaming. MS made directX and made an OS fairly gaming friendly and works to improve things like directX. Screws with apple but apple does not offer anything like that in return to make it easy.

If apple ever wants PC gaming the first thing they need to do is put real graphic cards in there main stream systems. It is sad day when one can build a gaming PC with OS and monitor speakers ect. for about 1k that beats the crap out of 2000+ Mac pro for gaming.

This is just my personal opinion, but I'm convinced that shoud Steve Jobs walk outside tomorrow and set up a giant sign that said "APPLE LOVES VIDEO GAMES", it would be ten years until anyone else took notice. Software developers would continue to ignore Apple because of the perception that everyone else would too.

It takes forever to convince the marketplace that your company's focus has changed. Years ago, Macs were "those educational computers that aren't compatible with anything". Now MR readers know that Macs are as useful, if not more so, than PCs, but if you were to ask people on the street, they'd say "Yeah, Apple... They make those neat-looking computers for artists and old people. Oh, but they also make iPods!" It's amazing how in 10 years, public opinion has only just crawled away from what it was.

And the problem is, the game developers flock to the masses, regardless of how their opinions hold up.

Well, combine accelerometer and the games already in the cards, I guess it can become a combination of Wii and PSP. Now can that be an indication if a possible entry into gaming market :) ?
