This is just my personal opinion, but I'm convinced that shoud Steve Jobs walk outside tomorrow and set up a giant sign that said "APPLE LOVES VIDEO GAMES", it would be ten years until anyone else took notice. Software developers would continue to ignore Apple because of the perception that everyone else would too.
It takes forever to convince the marketplace that your company's focus has changed. Years ago, Macs were "those educational computers that aren't compatible with anything". Now MR readers know that Macs are as useful, if not more so, than PCs, but if you were to ask people on the street, they'd say "Yeah, Apple... They make those neat-looking computers for artists and old people. Oh, but they also make iPods!" It's amazing how in 10 years, public opinion has only just crawled away from what it was.
And the problem is, the game developers flock to the masses, regardless of how their opinions hold up.
