Will Apple ever give us a non Glossy option with the MacBook?

Hello, I'm in the market for a new Apple laptop, I have a 20" intel iMac and a Powerbook at the moment, so I decided to go with the MacBook to replace my Powerbook, perfect size, and I don't need graphics power, that's what I have the iMac for.

My PowerBook is moving along at the moment, I don't mind putting up with it for a couple of months, I really want the Black MacBook, but this glossy screen thing really sucks and it's what's stopping me from getting the MacBook, yes it's true, will apple ever give us the option to just have the screen with no gloss?

No, they make that a Macbook Pro only option so people will buy it over a normal Macbook

I wouldn't count on it, matte screens have developed a "professional" stature.

You can always get the matt screen guard for the screen. My local apple store sells them and if you seen it for yourself you would have thought the screens come matt on the macbook.

No. As stated above, it distinguishes the MBP from the MB.


You can always try some 600 grade sand paper.

Have you actually tried using a Macbook? The screen has an antiglare coating which, for me, makes reflections a non-issue when I am using it. It does reflect a lot if you are viewing from the side. However, unless you want to gather your friends around to watch a movie on a 13" screen, this is also not a problem.

I agree with everyone else that it will likely be kept as a distinguishing feature between the MB and the MBP. Besides, my experience at the Apple Store is that most of the people who would buy a macbook LOVE the glossy screen.

Add an antiglare screen protector

I bought a 13.3-inch antiglare screen protector from Vinko's Treasures. For the MacBook, he currently lists only the ultraclear (not-antiglare) model, but he has the antiglare version and sold it to me for the same price.

I can't say how well it works; my daughter's MacBook won't arrive for another four or five days.

well I did check out the Apple Store, it's not THAT bad, I was imagining that I'd be able to see my reflection like on my friend's HP laptop, but it's not that bad, thank to everyone for your replies.

yeah, it's really not. i often forget it's a glossy screen at all. actually, in some ways, i prefer the PC glossies because they're much more saturated/vibrant (at least the ones I've seen) - but then I remind myself of all the annoying reflections they have to put up with compared to mine and that makes it better..
