Have no idea what will happen but it sounds like you can mitigate the chance of this happening by making sure to dust this area (if I read this correctly).

OP,
Did you read the article? Forbes is nothing but a supermarket tabloid. Be that as it may, the supposed allegation is not about dust but a cable flex problem diagnosed by some repair shops. The article is talking about MBP from previous years not the new Macs. In the future, try reading the article instead of trying to post some kind of Apple gotcha thread

Ricky Panesar, founder of repair specialist iCorrect, told me the issue impacts the A1989, A2251, A2289, A2338 and A2141 units—with the latter being the worst affected. These models were released between 2018 and 2020, but Panesar says that MacBook Pro models that were sold between 2016 and 2020 have a similar design that could be susceptible to this fault.

“It’s a common problem, we get several of them a week,” Stephan Steins from repair shop NotebookNerds told me.
Really? Everything's a common problem if you ask a repairshop because they only see the broken kit.
It's like surveying what percentage of the population are alcoholics by going to a pub.

Forbes is nothing but a supermarket tabloid. 🔥 ❌ ‼️ 👎🏽

What dismissive hyperbole! LOL!

Hmm… it would help if you used quote marks when quoting from an article! Otherwise, they look like your words — and as if Ricky Panesar told *you* personally about the issue!

Did you read the article? … the supposed allegation is not about dust but a cable flex problem diagnosed by some repair shops. 🙈

Did *you* read the article?! Clearly not carefully as Ricky and the other repair folks say the problem is caused by the dust!

”Panesar says that users will have to regularly and rigorously clean their laptops to prevent dust build up.”

Based on his interviews, the reporter explains the problem as follows:

”At the hinge point between the screen and keyboard there’s a gap that can collect dust and dirt. Debris then gets onto the cable and, through opening and closing the lid, damages the cable over time.”

There are even photos highlighting the role of the dust!

Finally, the reporter concludes the article with:

”But for the Mabook Pro units damaged by dust on the flex cable, the company hasn’t offered the same free fix, or publicly commented on it yet.”

Moral of the story: People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones! 😁

I read the article. What the article is speaking of isn't about new Macs, even though the article is recently dated and Forbes makes it sound like a new problem that affects newer Macs. My point stands about Forbes and my mistake about not using quotes. I should have. If the OP had looked past Forbes, he would have found out his Mac is eligible for the repair program. The article is poorly written, to say the least.

Yeah, Apple addressed this with newer MacBooks after 2020. I'd think if you had an older MBP, you'd have experienced this by now. Not sure why it's an issue now.
