Hey all while I'am waiting for my first imac just want to know peoples thoughts whether or not apple will redesign the imac after the quiet redesign of the mac mini.

The iMac was just redesigned last november. Don't expect a design change anytime soon. The next update will be a minor bump only.

iMac just got redesigned along the with the last update. Mini got a new design but it was time to, it's been the same forever and iMac is already full aluminum.

I highly doubt a redesign will be out anytime soon, but perhaps apple will silently update the lower end iMacs with i3's, and i5's. Maybe better graphics cards too.

Looking at the refresh rate on the Mac's this spring Apple has updated one every month. I strongly suspect the trend will continue. I predict the MacBook Air next month and the iMac in August just before school starts.

By the way...I finally bought my first Mac just last week - a MacBook Pro 13" for my wife to use in the kitchen. We are waiting to replace the PC in the office once the iMac's get refreshed this summer. As soon as the refresh is announced we will go online and order a 27" i7...or whatever is top of the line then. I can't wait. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad for work and compared to our new MacBook Pro it is a piece of junk...I never thought I would say that about a PC. But - in every way the MacBook is better.

There was a Mac mini update??!!

*goes to check*

Wow. I completely missed that.

Haha, be more awake next time ;) Innards are about the same as we expected (link) but they dropped the high-end and kept low-end and server. Price increase shocked me at least, 250€ more for 320M!

Yeah, I doubt the iMacs will have a new look.. probably just hardware updates, I'm hoping to see HDMI port and USB 3.0.. and if we are lucky Core i3/i5

Why is HDMI important in an iMac? Just use a DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter. For a small computer like the mini, it makes sense. But the majority of people aren't going to put a honkin' iMac next to their big screen HDTV. Besides, if you get the 27" model you practically have a big screen display right there.

No need for HDMI switch

Speaking only for myself here but I would LOVE if the iMac had both the HDMI and DisplayPort because I want to run HDMI to my projector in my basement and to my TV in my living room. If I have both ports I can use a DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter for one and standard HDMI for the other.

What can they possibly do to the design. Its already in-line with the rest of the Mac products. Just the mini wasn't but now it is with the updated model.

As someone who is awaiting the 27 inch iMac refresh-I am also not hankering for HDMI out. I don't see the point-unless I'm missing something.

As far as HDMI in-umm; maybe I do see a point with HDMI in. That way those who want Blu-Ray on their iMac will have their wish.:p

They will not update the design quietly, they would only do small speed increases quietly. Any redesign would be expensive for them, and therefore would be displayed in grand fashion.

Err, what about the new Mac Mini that was just refreshed with a new design?

"Err"...It's on Apple's front page, and it's about as much fanfare as the mini has ever received. A new iMac design would not only be absolutely huge, but would be entirely unexpected.

I didnt suspect this thread would get this many comments anyways after reading over everyones comments i believe a revision in the design will not occur this year for these reasons:

1. Steve Jobs will present the Imac at WWDC
2. Change comes with major revision of OSX blu ray support more hotter components
3. looking at a timeline i found on the web apple seems to keep the same design for about 4 years sightly modifying its apperance making it thinner

Congratulations. I'm sure you'll be more happy with, and get more out of the MBP than you would have if you purchased an iPad.

Yes - we were considering an iPad...I really want one...but the wife is a big picture taker and wanted something portable that she could work with using iPhoto. That was the deal breaker for us in not getting an iPad...for now. I still plan on getting one but replacing our aging PC's is first priority.

I am looking forward to the refreshed iMac which I doubt will see any form factor change..but will have some small updates to the GPU or other processor speed. Also - I suspect that the next iMac will offer either the Magic Mouse or the touch pad we have been seeing spy shots of. My six year old PC is ready to be retired...but I want the latest iMac...so I must wait another month or two.
