At WWDC? What does everyone think? Personally I'm starting to lean towards a yes-at least a presentation.

I think there is going to be a "one more thing" that no one knows much about. Although the specifics of the 3G iPhone are not known, everyone knows that it is coming. Steve has to make up for the Macbook Air leaks. Didn't present us with the BAM!

And If you read Appleinsider today with their information about the commercial and how there were two guys in suits with a case and inside the case was "the product". Why would they present something that we all know is coming like that?

Chime in on if there will be a "one more thing" and what it will be too.

The ipod touch IS a tablet, anything bigger wont fit in the pocket so will be awkward, large tablets dont sell enough for apple to be interested in that market, laptops are just more practical for proper osx and whats the point in just scaling up the ipod touch ui?

I feel pretty strongly that Apple has a 6-9" tablet somewhere in the background, but by no means will it be seeing the light of day anytime soon. Apple has no interest in further fragmenting their product line, especially on the eve of the first WWDC with the Mac sharing the stage with the iPhone. Resolution independence might also get officially blessed in the keynote and trotted out as a means to deploying apps to all manner of screen sizes. There might be a mention of the need for these developers to start thinking more critically about applications on small screens, but that would be just about it.

The one possible ray of hope here (since I do really hope Apple puts out a tablet), is if Apple decides to go head to head Amazon's Kindle. While I like electronic books, and I own a Sony Reader, I don't think it is a large enough market for Apple to jump into. Not yet at least. But perhaps as Amazon moves itself to compete with iTunes, Apple will feel that turnabout is fair play. Amazon, Netflix, and others are moving full speed towards digital distribution, and a mid-sized tablet would hit that emerging market in full force (the right size for a book, ample screen for movies, an excellent mobile browser, and a full collection of 3rd-party applications for everything else), all wrapped in the wonder and magic of multi-touch. Its a slim hope, but what can you do. Just don't expect it anytime soon...

I'd love a tablet, but I'm thinking a release more along the lines of MacWorld '09, after all, it's MacWorld Expo's 25th year! Also, possibly another event in 2008 that brings the tablet, but I doubt it.

I voted idealistically :(

Realistically, chances are it won't happen.

In fact, nothing people are speculating will happen. Steve will give a keynote and then in that keynote he'll probably announce an iPhone specific event where they announce the iPhone 3G.

Maybe a slight mention of 10.6, as it seems to be cropping up. Probably telling us it's multi-touch so that we don't feel like Windows 7 is going to have anything over OS X.
