With that free ipod deal apple is getting a lot of macbooks and nanos out their door- do you guys think that apple will screw them over by releasing newer versions of those two products right after the offer ends? (sept 16).

Being a college student myself, and in the market for a brand spankin new intel mac..I sure hope not! :(

Sorry to break it to you but that tends to be the case....eventually.

How long have you been shopping in your short and meaningful life?

You put stuff on sale to move inventory and that's usually your older inventory.

Apple is not about to announce their plans for the next 6 months because that would be business suicide.

We could see an all new iPod WiFI, TV Phone Fax Machine and blender with a Swiss
Army knife option on September 17th.

What's the big deal with them releasing new versions? My MBP is perfect, there's nothing wrong with it. Why would I want a "better" version?

Hate to say it, but this is how companies tend to deplete their stock before refreshes in the product line, it doesn't take away from the fact that it's an excellent deal.

hehe! nice one.

I just hope I have enough money saved up to buy a MacBook before the promo ends... A Nano would complement my 5G iPod great since its small and no moving parts. I don't really care about a Nano replacement as much as i do a 6G iPod.

Even so College students (at least in the UK) get a great deal all the time, they get 16% off Mac's and a free three-year warranty too, what more can you ask for? I mean PC manufacturers generally don't even give you a discount.

Not every company gives special deals to college students, feel fortunate for whatever deal you get.

Sure, they're excellent, but it would be pitty if you bought an "old" macbook
the eve before the new one comes out for the same price, not?
by the way, in Belgium, they don't do that discount
grtz,

You might want to read how the rules work on getting your FREE iPod Nano and Printer rebates.

How to get your free iPod.
1. Buy a Mac.
Buy a new MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Pro or Power Mac G5.

2. Add an iPod.
Purchase any iPod with a Mac and get up to $179 back after mail-in rebate.*

3. Submit your rebate.
After you receive your products, start your rebate online for fastest processing. Or download and mail the rebate form.

Same rules apply for the printer rebate.

You have to buy all this stuff together, THEN submit your rebate forms ON TIME.

If you are short on money, buy a refurb or use your education discount and get yourself a nice computer.

If you have an extra $179.00 to tie up for a few months, think about RAM, Software and a good Laptop Bag.

Very true. And just because a new version is released, doesn't mean the current models are junk. They still work the same. :)

Screw over? Hell, nobody told the college students to bite the bait during the promotion, I wanted Merom and I sat the australian promotion out.

Just a thought but if your getting a free nano or alot of money off an iPod when you buy your new mac you could wait 'till you get the rebate back through and then sell it making double! You allready essentially have a "free" ipod when you get your rebate back so if you sell it for even 75% of the price which you could easily get with it being so new, you could be well on the way to buying the new one if they do "screw us over"

Last year, the iPod mini was replaced straight after the rebate and now there are rumours of a new nano. It is highly likely but it is still not "screwing us over".

In the UK, you can buy a refurb 30GB video for £130ish. Get the free nano, sell it and you can almost stretch that money to a video.

I don't see how getting a free iPod and a sweet discount could be considered "screwed over".
