I wasn’t planning on upgrading my gen 1 iPP 12.9 for awhile, but if the new 12.9 reduces the bezels and loses Touch ID, I want to go ahead and upgrade to the gen 2 to make sure I have the longest lasting iPP 12.9 with Touch ID and bezels (which I prefer) as possible. I would buy now but just want to make sure, Apple doesn’t typically sell an older generation iPad alongside a newer, correct? I know they don’t currently. I’d hate to buy now and lose out on a lower price.

I personally would think for at least a couple months there would be stock left at retailers. The best deals definitely come when the new products come out, so save your chips!!

Either buy old stock or consider getting a couple of hundred off by buying Apple Refurbished. They have new batteries and new screens and cases - they come with the full one year warranty and you can buy AppleCare+ to extend the warranty. You will have at least another 2 years before they are gone from the Apple website. IMO

Typically what Apple might do is keep the current iPad Pro in their lineup until the keynote when they announce the new iPads and then discontinue the previous models, however; that is _if_they actually discontinue the previous models or just discount them under the newest iPads. The Entry level iPads will remain, but it’s unclear with the new design and Face ID likely coming, what Apple will do with the current iPad Pros.

The 12.9 had some awesome deals early on

I got $100 off base model just a couple months after release

I think right after that they were $150 :O

If you’re patient and hold out for a while i wouldn’t be surprised to see the same for 3rd gen crop up periodically

If there is a new 12.9 iPad Pro this year, and the change is as dramatic as the rumors are making it sound, I think you'll be able to find a 2nd gen 12.9 Pro pretty easily at or after that new release.

But having said that, I would recommend being ready to buy soon after the new one is released.
