Just curious if anyone knows if the :apple:TV will output video to both HDMI and component if both are connected? I have an :apple:TV hooked up via HDMI to my television in bedroom but I'm looking to add a wireless HD transmitter to send a signal from both our HD DVR and the :apple:TV to a TV on our covered patio and would connect it via component connections. Couldn't find any reference in Apple's documentation, on these forums or via Google so thought I'd ask.

Thanks.

I have my ATV set up to use both connections - HDMI to my HD projector and component to my HD LCD. As long as the HDMI connection isn't active, the component connection gets used but when I turn on my amp and projector, the ATV detects it and switches to HDMI and the component output goes dark.

So, your scenario would only work if your bedroom TV wasn't turned on.

Thanks for the info.

Does the :apple:TV detect the HDMI connection when the attached device is turned on or does it detect it when the :apple:TV is selected as the input source on the TV? If I have the TV input set to my DirecTV HD DVR, is the HDMI connection to the :apple:TV activated or only when I change the input to the :apple:TV?

It seems to depend on the device. On my amp, the ATV will switch to HDMI even if I'm not using that input so it seems there is a signal when the amp is powered telling the ATV that the HDMI socket is live. Given that my projector and LCD TV are both in the same room it works for me because I'm not going to be watching the ATV on both screens at once. I can't say how it will work for you. You'll just have to try it.
