Hey guys,

I wanted to back up my Blu-Ray Library (I got about 40 discs and a few TV show seasons) to iTunes. I have an Apple TV and would like to be able to play them all through there.

I have DVDFab ripping software for Windows and it has functions for Apple devices (unfortunately no AppleTV that I see) but it has an iPad and iPhone format feature with a 1080p option.

My question is if I create a 1080p MP4 file, will it play on AppleTV as 720p? Or will it just not show up at all?

I want to be able to play them all now through my current gen Apple TV but also if a 1080p Apple TV comes out in the future I'd hate to have to go ripping my entire library all over again.

It depends on the bitrate if it's too high they will drop frames. The Apple TV will definitely see them and play them.

1080p performs better under xbmc on the Apple TV.

I have 10mb 1080p files playing fine on the Apple TV.

The Apple Tv only outputs in 720p but you will be able to preserve your file in 1080p just not at insane btrates.
