Other Will apps need to get updated to support 120 Hz?

Basically the title. I know that games will need to get updated to support it but I'm wondering if that's also the case for regular apps. I hope/guess it's not but I'd just like to make sure. Thanks in advance.

I hope there's an iOS 15 setting to manually lower the refresh rate for better battery life.

I want 1 week battery life using Airplane mode, VoWiFi (WiFi Calling) and Low Power Mode are all On.
