Doubtful... Main reason I'm looking at the HTC Hero from Sprint. Plans are WAY cheaper.

I have found that Verizon and ATT are both large enough to not care if you leave. It seems only Sprint and T-Mobile will actually concede goods and services if you threaten to leave.

AT&T is hardly desperate for customers--right now at least. In fact, they'd probably benefit from a few iPhone users leaving so that there will be less stress on their craptastic network.

If your plan was set to expire at around the time that AT&T and Apple's exlusivity contract ends you might get something. When that day comes, AT&T might be very nervous.

you are not even a drop in ATT's niagra fall, so they will just tell you good luck.

The best you can do is check to see if you can get a FAN discount via where you work or go to school. You might luck out and get a percentage off your entire bill.

Beyond that, they're really not going to do much for you.

I've been with AT&T/Cingular for 10 years, Verizon for a number of years before that, and LA Cellular for a number of years. Frankly, I get nothing for being a good customer who has always paid on time. I don't think AT&T owes you any discount for keeping a phone for the entire 2-year contract.

Actually... That's what they give you the phone for 199 for! :D The new phones and the upgrade rebates are exactly what they give you for committing to contracts.

Well that's true. But the OP's post reads like he deserves a plan discount for just holding a phone for 2 years. While I commend him for sticking to his contract for 2 years (an idea that is lost on many when new phones come out) I just don't think anyone owes him anything.

I know. I didn't mean that you were wrong. I was more letting the OP know that this is what they do for contract holders and don't often offer anything else.

I can chime in here because I've done it.

When I called to cancel, he asked me why. I said the plan was too expensive and he came up with an offer to give me 300 minutes for $29 instead of 450 for $39.

I declined it, but he would have given me the discount.

Not really just a discount, it's less minutes too. I think it's just another plan they have. It's also probably not designated an iPhone plan either. Good to know though.

Well, maybe it's not a discount, but it's not a plan that they officially offer (unless they're trying to keep you). That's why I brought it up.

I wonder if they'd offer better messaging plans.

Oh well... Can't beat Sprints Unlimited Any Mobile plan. :p Right now I'm on AT&T and with my discount I'm paying about $70/mo (w/200 Messages).

On Sprint I could have my entire family, 5 people, with unlimited messaging and mobile to any mobile for 140/mo... I'm probably going to switch to the Hero soon.

I do miss Sprint.
I'm just way too attached to my iphone to switch back, especially since I know Sprint will never get it. My husband is leaning the same way as you though.

I know... I feel like I'll go through iPhone withdrawl for a while. I'm probably going to keep it so I can play around with Apps. :D Who knows! Maybe one day I'll go back. :D I'm definitely going to unlock it in case I go overseas or need a GSM phone though.

Don't you guys have retentions?

Here in Canada, you can negotiate your plan after your contract is up, almost up, or after 1 year..

Regardless, I like my plan :)

this raises a new issue though....

ATT claims that the contract is put in place to offset the subsidized cost of what they paid for your iphone; so after two years, the iphone subsidy is "theoretically" paid off on your end....

....so when your contract ends, shouldn't they lower the price anyway because you're no longer paying for the subsidy as it is all paid off?

i may be wrong, please correct me if i am.

Yes of course, but unlike Canada, we only have 1 carrier... AT&T isn't really going to offer anything big to keep anyone from leaving at this point.

Why don't more companies take care of good, long-time customers? I understand that aggressive discounts and such are to lure new customers, but it would be nice once in a while to get a loyalty-type perk. I'm talking about having the same cable company for years and years or like you, with your cell phone company - not so much the fulfillment of a contract. Only when you call do they have some "great or super deal" to offer you.

Just a thought.
