I've been contemplating getting a new iPod Nano, but I recently got my old 5th gen out and remembered how much I love it. It's pretty beat up, but it is still my favorite iPod Nano design. The only thing is, the battery's been dead so long so much that it's shot. It will only hold a charge for a few hours.

Will Apple still replace these batteries? Is there any place I can go to get a new one installed? Thanks!

I think they'll still replace them but it's cheaper to either DIY or ship it to a shop that does it.

Yeah, it seems they'll charge $70, but I don't want it to get messed up because it has sentimental value. I'll either pay them to do it or get a new Nano if they ever come out with one with more storage and just keep mine for memories.

even if apple doesn't do repairs on this model doesn't mean that no one else will. and if you're serious about wanting to keep it around for sentimental reasons then at some point you will have to rely on someone other than apple for your repairs. you know this.
