hi i am a complete noob to mac and was wondering if civ 5 from the mac app store would ok on my 2011 macbook pro 13" base model? and also if it would slow my mac down at all because I've read elsewhere that it is quite a large file.? any help will be appreciated, thank you :)

Oh, it's not that large of a file

It should run quite smootlhy in my opinion, but you will need to lower the graphics. I doubt that it will bother you, considering thaht you wouldn't be playing CIV 5 for the graphics anyway

But I'm pretty confident it'll run fine.
If it's laggy on lion, you can always try to install it on bootcamp
And maybe there's a demo out there for you to try out

wow thanks! i got a $100 iTunes gift card when i bought my mac because of the student deal so ill probably just buy it of the mac app store :) do you know how long it should take to download?

I have no idea, but since you're downloading from what I suppose is a server that will give you around 1Mo/s, I'd say around 2-3 hours

Otherwise, the wait will make it more delicious!

I'm playing it on the same computer and it runs great. Minor slow downs at the end game but nothing game-breaking.

Hopefully, Apple can get out some updates to Lion/Snow Leopard for even better graphics results.

Its usually better to buy games from Steam... mainly because you get the Mac and Windows version both for 1 price... where buying from the mac App store, if you ever want the Windows version later, you have to buy it again.

The HD 3000 in the MBP 13" didn't run Civ5 for awhile, but they supposedly fixed that... so make sure you install all Civ5 patches before trying to play or it might not work

where do i download the patches and it seems to be taking forever to download, like the download bar hasnt even budged and its been an hour :S will it still download in sleep mode?

if its the Mac App Store.... it might be the newest versions.. I don't know. I think thats a requirement for the store.. to keep it updated through the store, but I do not use the Mac App Store, so not sure. I have the Steam store version which Steam keeps updated automatically.

And no.. nothing will download or keep running at all when your in sleep mode.

The Steam and MAS version of Civ V for Mac are the same. Both at 1.01 and both need updates - last one was June 1st or something. The PC side has received several since then with some very nice fixes. MAS now has delta updates with Lion - meaning the updates won't require a full re-download of the app.

I'm almost thinking of going back to a BootCamp install.
