I'm about to purchase a new mac mini (2.3 i7) and I'm trying to decide whether to buy it with a fusion drive or build my own. I have a Crucial 128GB M4 (CT128M4SSD2) in my old PC I could use but I want something that's reliable and after it's installed I don't have to worry about opening things back up or dealing with any upgrade, kext, or compatibility issues.

Will these older SSDs work in the mini? I know before there were some issues with partition block sizes and TRIM.

I had seen the first link but failed to see the 2nd one in my searching. Based on the comment quoted below, it doesn't sound like a good idea to try and use my Crucial SSD as a fusion drive. That basically means I could either run the SSD in a two drive system or order the fusion drive with my mini.

Thanks for the quick response!

I would suggest stick only using either OCZ Vertex/Agility 3/4 or Samsung SSDs, and Hitachi/WD HDs at the moment because there is a high chance of incompatibility when creating the Fusion Drive. I have experienced this with my setups and got numerous errors mainly unable to create a Logical Volume (Fusion Drive) with Intel 520 or a Kingston V+200 SSD.

Why not give it a shot yourself and see if it works. Just make sure to upgrade firmware on M4 to latest in order to fix the 5000 hr bug.
