Will EyeTV work with Virgin media cable TV?

Sorry - but know nothing about these systems and was wondering how (and if) it is possible to watch TV on the Mac.

I have been looking at the Elgato range of products but am confused. There seems to be a way of watching freeware...

Hey mate, I don't believe there is a way to do this. Satellite and cable feeds are scrambled and encrypted and are decoded by the cable and sky boxes. I wish there was a way, even a back-door way but I haven't found one yet!

The only good channel on Sky nowadays is Sky one anyway, and that ain't on Virgin anymore (No thanks to Sky I agree...). Hope Freeview is good enough for you!

Not sure about all locations but it depends on your locale and cable provider.

IF >>>> you are not required to have a decoder box, that is, you could hook the coax directly to the TV set it *should* work.

I have one and it appears to be able to do three formats.....

1) Analog Cable
2) Analog Broadcast ( over the air )
3) Digital Broadcast ( over the air )

I have one and use it on cable here, I am located in the USA and on a small cable provider.

you can get digital freeview, if you want anything extra you need a hybrid as it has an analogue tuner and you input the seperate digibox into the eyetv hybrid, its a shame there is no other way around this so far.

In answer to your question, yes there are many ways to watch TV on the mac. I use EyeTV bundled with HD Homerun (there are many other ways as well.

HD Homerun attaches to your cable or to an antenna and then can be picked up by any Mac or PC on your wired or wireless network. It works great.

Don't listen to the others that say that this doesnt work. All cable providers must provide HD programming in a form called Clear QAM for all broadcast tv in hd format. I have a cable modem and get 15 stations in HD over clear QAM without an HD tuner or paying for HD programming.

I also use my apple TV for buying whatever shows that we like best from all the various cable stations like The History Channel, Discovery etc. Overall we save money and have the best shows that we want available.
