Will getting the new MacBook Air be hard?

I was just curious, do you think that if I do not get the new MBA on the day of release, do you think it would be hard to find one in a retail store within say the first week still? Or even online if no to the previous question? I'm not sure on how fast the last ones sold

P.S. in the United States!

you really want a first apple product? (i would wait a month or so) ie: imac yellow screen,ipad 2 light bleeding,macbook pro sandy overheating.......

It's not a 1st gen product, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Every hardware update includes changes of some sort, so you can't just be afraid of purchasing a product after a minor update.

Yes, perhaps it's better to wait around 4-6 weeks after release (or whenever the first manufactured batch runs out), but my personal opinion is to not be afraid of purchasing an updated product immediately upon release (and yes, defects are covered by Apple, so no worries there). The MBA is not the first computer to include Sandy Bridge parts in it, and this isn't Apple's first attempt at a unibody MBA. ;)

tom vilsack: 1 month wouldn't make a difference... SB "overheating" is still with MBPs, iPad 2 still suffer from light bleeding AFAIK etc... Yet SB MBPs aren't new products, iPad 2 isn't new product either... SB isn't overheating, it just has higher working temperature (since MBPs are from aluminium) and this won't be fixed. I doubt Apple will do something about screens either. I would just wait for reviews to see how new MBAs are... If you want perfect product, wait a year...

Not to mention the fact that the SBs said to be overheating in the 15" + MBPs are quad core. The ULV processors used in the Air won't run anywhere near the temperature of the ones in the Pros.

Besides, if you've got a problem you just can't live with - e.g. the backlight bleeding on the iPad - you've got 14 days to take it back for a full refund. No biggy.

I have an SB laptop as well and if you use SMCfancontrol the slight increase in temperature is barely noticable on my old Macbook 4.1 it could get hot enough to cook on :D

Well thanks for all of that advice guys. And idk if this is the same but I got an iPhone 4 on release day and no problems there?
But back to the main point, will it be hard to get if I wait a week? And I'm not going to wait a month for it.

I really hope it's coming very soon! I just can't wait anymore, i'll get one on the day it's released, read a rumor saying 5 July.

Fortunately/Unfortunately, I only have one of those listed problems. My wife said I could get one, but I just don't have the money right now. :eek:

Same here, I read someplace Week of July 4th on 9to5Mac, or some other blog...hope so.

I bought the MBA 11" during the first week it came out late last year. The first day, I went to Best Buy to play with the display model, and they had plenty in stock. There was no line, and yeah, a couple people were playing with the displays, but there wasn't even a bit of a crowd. I ended up ordering online, but there was no backorder or delays.

The craze that you're afraid of really only applies to the iPhone and the iPad. To my knowledge, no other Apple product (MacBook, iMac, iPod, iPod Touch, etc) sell out or have people waiting in line. So you'll be fine if you buy day 1 or wait a week or a month.

The problem with SB is not TDP rating, it's the peak heating from Turbo-Boost. TDP rating doesn't capture the instantaneous heat generated from TB, and the Air isn't particularly suited to deal with heat bursts (i.e. case ventilation).

I think it depends on whether you want the standard model or one with upgrades. All stores will have lots of the standard models. But if you want more RAM or a faster processor, you may have to wait anyway.:cool:

I certainly hope bugs and issues isn't a big deal with it, I will be buying an 11" with 4GB ram and 128GB SSD soon after release date for use in college/at home. It's gonna be my main computer. I haven't even totally convinced my parents to let me get it. (I've told them all the facts why Macs are superior, and my mum's okay with it, but Dad's gotta hard-on for PC) So if I get one, and then there are problems with it, that'll make me look bad, as well as the company, in their eyes. I guess that's the reasoning for the 14-day after purchase business, no?

I don't think it will be hard to get so due to the fact, I have only seen lineups for iPads and iPhones only.
