I have a 2019 MBP that is currently running Calatina. The reason for not upgrading so far is that I rely (for work) on an application (Adobe Captivate) that has only just been patched for Big Sur…it will NOT run on Monterey.

I do not want to upgrade to Monterey yet but will I be able to go from Catalina to Big Sur once Monterey is released?

Will I need to upgrade before it releases?

You can go to Sur no problem after Monterey's release, though note that typically after release of a new major update, it's the only thing that will be displayed in the Mac App Store, and you will likely need to access Sur via

Might be a good idea since Monterey is due to be released this Monday, Oct 25th. Upgrading now saves you the trouble of digging around for Big Sur. Keep in mind that once Monterey is released, automatic updates will grab it first. If you want Big Sur, do it now when it's easy to get.

Not to overtake the thread or anything, but anyone know the reason why this pops up when following Apple's link for Big Sur?
