There seems to be some confusion about it, do you guys think
I will be able to install SL from the original disks on a new, let's say
Macbook Pro introduced in a few months?
Some say Apple doesn't keep thoose new machines compatible,
some drivers or whatever will brake it...

But wouldn't this be crazy if so many important programs will not run
on Lion yet? Even Quicktime 7 is broken apparently.
I guess they might say "who cares"...

It's normal for some programs to not run on a new version. We had the same situation on Leopard and Snow Leopard; it would take a few months sometimes for applications developers to catch up.

Older versions of Snow Leopard will not have the drivers needed for new hardware that would be introduced.

If you really want to use old software that isn't updated regularly then do NOT buy a new Mac; why bother? If you're happy with old stuff stick with it and save your $$.

I haven't yet seen many "important" applications that won't run on Lion, but our definitions of what's important to us obviously varies. And you can buy Quicken Essentials for Mac for a discount if you want to move up. QuickTime X in Lion is better than it's predecessor, and although it doesn't have some of the export options of 7 it does better in other areas, so that's a wash.
