Hey all,

I have just pre-ordered for my relative to pick up from store for me in the US. She is then flying to the UK that evening with my iPad...

Anyone else from the UK expecting one?

Haha! Brag much? I'm just kidding (sort of), you're lucky

yeah my relative is stepping off the plane 3 seconds before yours, therefore i am cooler.

who cares?

I apologise dudes, I didn't mean my post to be a brag, just wondering if anyone else from the UK has taken the plunge in some way?

Sure... Seriously though, I looked at this site called BundleBox, who basically buy the thing for you and then ship it over here ASAP. But it would cost £464 for the 16Gb. I can't really justify that until I have seen what the UK price will be. Plus it is a bit extreme just to be a couple of weeks ahead of the pack.

Likely many people, including some journalists will get it in the UK day 1. I'm sure stephen fry will have one before launch.

So, no. You won't. :)

You have pre-ordered for store pick up already, right?

You guys mean "Reserved for in-store pickup right?" Cause pre-order is from Apple.com Store not from Retail.

LOL, I guess that would depend on if she is flying F, J, or W, or Y (on BA), or just F, J, or Y on other carriers. Will she be the first off the plane or the last? Haha! I am sure there are others who will probably do the same thing.

Yes I reserved an iPad for collection at her local store, I am assuming that as I could not reserve accessories, they expect in store supply to be ample?

Like it'll be your iPad by the time she's had a full flight with it! You accept IOU or cheques? hehe.

I wonder what the likelihood is she arrives at the Apple store and, through some big screw up, they've sold out all pre-orders. She still catches the flight to the UK, but then she likely won't take another flight to the UK for another few months and you'll end up being one of the last in the UK to get your iPad, after the ordinary UK iPad launch.

Yep, expecting the base Wi-Fi only model here in the UK. Ordered with BundleBox.com yesterday.
Already received an e-mail confirming they have bought the product on my behalf, complete with an international shipping number.

It's on the way to my Bundlebox now. Once it arrives, they'll e-mail me, I'll pay the shipping fees and UK import VAT,
and they say they can get it to me via international delivery on the morning of April 6th.

The reason I plunked with Bundlebox is they are the first company
I've personally seen to completely waiver US import duty on the iPad, with HMRC.

See - Here

Never used them before, but so far so good!

Damn! I never thought of this!

I'm going to be in Singapore about the 12th of April, and I just preordered ONE 64GB Wi-Fi. I SHOULD have ordered TWO, and sold one in Singapore for double the price. Then mine would be FREE! It would be an easy sale, because Singapore is CRAZY for Apple. (Probably 50% of laptops).

Why the hell didn't I think of that! Grrrrr!

Another one using BundleBox here! Just realised it's Bank Holiday in the UK that weekend, hope the iPad gets to by Bundlebox a day or two early...

@marcopolo007uk & @razorianfly

How did you justify jumping in with buying it, without knowing the UK pricing first? I am really on the fence, part of me is really tempted, but the other part doesn't want to get ripped off and I was just wondering what were your deciding factors in buying it?

The main deciding factor for me was the complete wavering of import duty (confirmed by HMRC).
I had a price in mind that I wasn't going to exceed. That price was £500.

Getting an iPad (of any description) via BundleBox for £465,
roughly 25 days early, in my opinion was worth it.

It will obviously differ per your individual decision factors, budget and needs.

You forgot it is a 2 stage process with Bundle Bob, because when your goods arrive at your address you have to pay Bundle Box the vat on duty and shipping so will be looking at another £100+

Not according to Bundlebox:
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The 16GB WiFi version will cost £465.20. This includes all shipping costs and VAT, a saving of over £30 on the rumoured UK launch price!

there's no duty to pay.

If you add those figures together $581= £360 ish
£360 + £80 ish = £464, i.e. what they said it would cost.

Yes that is the slowest shipment method, but they didn't suggest it was the quickest. For top speed, at most you pay is about £500.

I wonder if the UK AppStore will have iPad apps available before the hardware is launched in this country. Think I'll wait!
