The Land of Milk & Honey
I'm driving down to the Salem NH store to buy myself a 16gb iPad and a 64gb one for my dad since us Canadians are getting the lovely delay...

Will I have an issues using this in Canada and syncing it here on our computers ahead of the Canadian launch? I can't imagine I will, but I don't want to be sitting on a brick for a few months. I know it's probably too early to tell, but maybe somebody has an idea from previous launches.

I plan on selling mine a week or two before the launch of the Canadian models, hopefully getting what I paid back or maybe a little premium :D I want the 64gb 3G model when it's all over with...

You should be ok either way, unless customs busts you and makes you pay duty (bastards).

And don't buy one just to sell it in a month or two, haha, at least i wouldn't. Buy one for your dad, use it around a bit, give it to him then get yours soon. :D

Why? how do you know that?

My bad, I fudged that up.

For more info on 3G iPad in Canada, here's a decent resource (not much info available right now):

http://www.wifitalk.ca/canada/ipad-in-canada-communications/

Here's the excerpt on 3G:

The WiFi-only version should be available through normal channels – Apple Store, online, big boxes. As for 3G service, look at Telus, Bell, and Rogers to offer plans.

Do not expect to see the iPad with Wind/DAVE/Public Mobile.

Unfortunate as it may be, the 3G capabilities of the iPad do not allow it to be used on the 3G AWS band. If you visit the iPad specifications page, you’ll come across this information:

Wi-Fi + 3G model
UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
GSM/EDGE (850, 900,1800, 1900 MHz)
Data only2
Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n)
Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR technology
The 3G AWS band that Wind Mobile operates on, and that DAVE and Public Mobile will operate on is known as UMTS IV. It uses the 1700 MHz band for device-to-tower and 2100 MHz band for tower-to-device for communications. Notably missing is the 1700 MHz capability of the iPad, so no 3G AWS, so no Wind/DAVE/Public. At least for now.

The only conceivable issue concerning apps and if Apple withholds iPad specific apps from the store until the device is released in that specific country.

What about the spelling in the iPad's corrective dictionary. Can you can it to Canadian english in the settings? Because I don't think it will like our extra u's and 're' endings.

I echo this. Our spelling is slightly different, yet I'm not sure we're accommodated on the iPhone OS. OS X has "Canadian English" but don't think the iDevice does.

Don't iDevices "learn" from the user's spellings through time anyway via the predictive text? At least your iPad will eventually be fluent in Canadese! :D

if you do get one i dare you to walk into a canadian :apple: store with it. make sure to recored peoples reactions.:D

im getting one too and thought about this! but i would assume that the CDN stores should have demo models on display by then

I've switched to the Portland store, it's a few hours closer...

I would love to go into a canadian apple store with it; but the closest one to where I'm from is the portland store! :D

Stupid Nova Scotia, we get nothing...

Thanks guys, like I said, I plan on selling it a bit before the canadian launch anyways, so I can deal with the funny spelling for a bit haha.

I have a paid Canadian account, and a free US account. This works fine for getting free US apps on my iPhone.

I suspect we won't know till launch, but does anyone know if the launch apps will be released into the Canadian store or if they'll hold them until the iPad officially launches here.

Without the paid app store, I'm not sure how much of a benefit it'll be to have the device early.

Anyone know if I can buy US prepaid iTunes cards and use those in my US account and buy apps?

Yes you can!

I'm in the UK and have an iTunes US account with just over $100 on it, get friends to grab me a card if they are on hols or friends in US to gift me a voucher and paypal them the funds :) And have bought a few from eBay when needed.

Hoping to get my iPad on 7th April so am building up funds in the account for books and hopefully cheap tv shows :)

My iMac is authorised on both UK and US accounts I just switch login to go to right store!

Thanks that's great news I'll just grab a prepaid US iTunes card while I'm down there.
