I am not sure why, but it seems my :apple:TV is quite unstable; I constantly have to power-cycle the device to unlock it or watch content. Maybe it has been the recent :apple:TV software updates or the fact that I loaded Boxee on it at some point (although I have not reinstalled Boxee since :apple:TV 3.0). For example, last night I was watching a movie I rented via iTunes and it was very jumpy, so I power-cycled the device after the movie had downloaded completely. This solved the problem.

I was wondering:
  1. if anyone else is experiencing this
  2. if doing a factory reset should fix this
  3. if I will loose all my content (a few movies I've purchased on the :apple:TV ) or whether it will be restored from iTunes on my Mac
I imagine that doing a factory reset will restore the software to version 1.x or 2.x (whatever the unit came with), so I'll have to update the software afterward.

Any thoughts or comments are welcome!

Doing a factory reset may help your problem (it sounds like it would to me, but I'm not 100%). As long as your Apple TV is linked to an iTunes computer, just do a sync and then do a factory reset. Update to the latest software and then just link it back to the computer with iTunes and you can sync all your content again without losing anything.
