I'm running an older MacBook with Tiger 10.4.11. And I've had a dot Mac account and email for almost 5 years now.

If I don't upgrade my OS will I lose my email?? As I understand it, iCloud will only work with OS Lion.

Also have an old iPhone 3G, OS 4.1 on which I can't update the OS without a newer version of iTunes (which I can't update with my older version of Tiger!). Will that give me the same problem??

Sorry if these questions have been covered elsewhere, I've searched some and didn't find these specifically answered. Thx for any help! :)

Not sure if you'll "lose" your email if you don't upgrade or not. Bottom line is, you need to upgrade both your laptop OS, and your iPhone/iOS. How are you not going crazy with an old iPhone 3G? My wife was using one of those up until about a year ago, but the performance of the hardware, especially with iOS 4 was unbearable after a while.

Go to ebay, or Craigslist, and get a newer laptop for cheap, and while you're at it, the iPhone 3Gs is FREE! Go get that too! The 3Gs is still a great phone, my wife uses one now, and it runs iOS 5 just fine.

Yeah, I hear that about the iPhone. But I don't live in the States, and where I am (Thailand) they don't even have 3G networks yet (3rd world country and all that)! So for now I can live with my 3G phone as I only use it where there's wifi available. I bought the phone here, it's factory unlocked, but they cost as much here as they would in the US (unlocked). And I'm not willing to shell out for a newer one with no real 3G available here anyway.

What I'm really worried about is that if I'm unable to upgrade my laptop to Lion, that I'll lose my dot mac email address that I've had for several years. I read that Snow Leopard may be okay for use with iCloud, which I'm willing to upgrade to, but its availability here could be iffy. Most things here are iffy!

Until then I'll keep fishing for info, alternatives, or other possible answers. Thx for your reply!

Cheers,
NP
