Will I need to download a web version of Facebook, Myspace, MSN Messenger for the 3g?

Hi,

I'm getting the iPhone 3g tomorrow and I was just wondering if I was to use either 3g or wi-fi to access the internet, and then go onto MSN/Web messenger, Facebook, Myspace etc would it load up properly or would I need to download a 'mobile friendly version' if you understand me?

Any help would be appreciated.

As I understand it, most websites will work as normal - such as mobile messengers/Facebook etc.

Some providers (Facebook/AIM/etc) are providing applications in order to access their services so that they can do things they can't do with a standard website.

I suspect AIM/MSN/Yahoo! will all release Apps which will tie into Apple's 'Push' service, so that you can be online all the time and be notified when somebody sends you a message. This wouldn't be possible using a web messenger.

Ah, right ok I get you.

For instance, I was out and about, connected to 3g, with MSN running so I could hear if anyone wanted to talk, would this drain the battery like hell?

Also, can I just confirm that with every contract the buyer will receive unlimited web browsing? What about if I was abroad and connected to the internet via 3g, would this cost more or something along those lines?

Facebook and MySpace have free apps for the iPhone. However, you can view the full internet versions of either, just remember that you won't be able to see any Flash content on those sites.

Data in your home country is unlimited. Data outside your home country is expensive as hell. Some early adopters of the original iPhone got slammed with bills upwards of $3,000 which was all due to showing off their iPhone in foreign climes.

AT&T offer an international data package, which for the 2G phone is $25/month for 20MB and $60/month for 50MB. 3G will probably be more expensive. 20MB doesn't last long if you watch a lot of YouTube or email lots of photos, but with sensible management (reset the usage counters before you leave to track it), you can still use mail, safari, google maps and such without burning your allowance.

Of course, any wifi usage doesn't come out of your over-the-air data limit, so you can iPhone to your hearts content if you can glom on to someone's connection via wifi, regardless of where you are on the planet.
