Just wondering if anyone knows if with iCloud we can finally sync everything, not just email, to smartphones other then an iPhone.

I've tested my MobileMe account on several phones (Blackberry, Android, Windows Phone 7) and all do email just fine, but none can sync the calendar and contacts. And since, apart from Blackberry, there are no sync tools, there is no way of syncing them as well. In a nice-ish way, not a weird hacked up way.

It takes a few months before I can renew my telephone subscription, and I am not looking forward on taking an iPhone. So, I am hoping that Apple will finally allow other smarthphone OS's to sync fully.

I'd say its doubtful. I don't think apple will be willing to increase integration to its OS for non iPhones. You want to live in their ecosystem you need to be using their products then

I am expecting that to happen...

I like MobileMe where it is at the moment. Mainly the syncing of my bookmarks, keychain plus email/calendar/contacts.
Google can for email/calendar/contacts, and I guess bookmarks for Chrome, but I do not use Chrome and I just like the integrated things from MobileMe.

One of the advantages of iCloud is it's exclusivity to the Apple Eco System.

Therefore I seriously doubt it would ever be open to any brand of smartphone other than Apples own.

What is so great about exclusivity? You're stuck to devices from one company, using several protocols for several services.

I am not a fanboy in any way, but with Microsoft Exchange server you get one protocol for everything. And it works on pretty much every device supporting (Secure)IMAP.
And no, I am not going to run a private Exchange server at home. And yes, I can ;-)
