Had my account all the way back since iTools and still use it to this day. Just sick at the amount of spam getting through my account recently. It's getting intolerable. Whereas my Gmail account, never had anything as they filter it so effectively. Why can't Apple!?

They do. In Mail.app. As far as I know, there's no server side filtering in MobileMe.

Well yeh that's the point, it's fine when I'm at my desktop, Mail.app does an okay job. But when I'm out all day. No filtering at all. Can't believe they still don't have anything at a server level. It's ridiculous.

Furious

I'm having the same problem, and it's even MORE annoying with the new iOS5 messaging. I'll get an email notification banner that's nothing more than spam. I don't see a spam filtering option in iCloud, nor does UnsubscribeMe.com seem to support iCloud yet. There's no mention of it.

I can't use Mac Mail on my computer anymore because I refuse to upgrade to Lion simply for iCloud and risk my other apps and 3rd party plugins. So instead, I have to send my spam email to mail@unsubscribe.com one by one. It's my new part time job

If it's that important to you then you should have been more careful with your e-mail address.

None Here...

As of yet. Been on iCloud and email since the public rollout a couple of weeks ago. No SPAM, or issues.

I was getting sick of all the spam I was getting at my .mac account, up to 10 a day. Since the iCloud transition, I've had 2 spam messages total-and they've both went to the junk folder in Mail. Not sure what they changed, but I'm very impressed!

Tried them all and NOTHING beats gmail spam filtering. Its one of the main reason I'm staying on the google platform.

Gotta love a smart a** with no helpful suggestions. FYI, I've had my email address for a VERY long time and have NEVER experienced this problem. It has only happened with the transfer to iCloud and from one source with various email addresses.

Could it be that maaaybe, maaaaaybe since this has NEVER happened to me before that I WAS careful? And maybe just maaaaybe this has to do with the fact that Apple effed up since it's NOT just ME?

I've been experiencing the very same thing - 5 or more spam messages per day - ever since migrating from dot Mac to iCloud. And like the original poster I've had my account since the iTools days.

The Mail app on Lion flags the messages as junk, as does the iCloud web interface, but my iPad and iPhone receive the messages without hesitation, no matter how many times I've flagged those senders as junk. I have to remember to turn push notifications off when I go to bed, or else I'll be awaken by 5 or more spam messages arriving throughout the night. And again, this did not start until I migrated to iCloud last Fall.

I wonder if this isn't an issue only affecting those of us whose accounts remain @mac.com instead of @me.com. I've tried setting my account up as the latter on my iPad, but once added it changes it back to @mac.com - sabotaging my experiment.

Per Apple's instructions, I have forwarded the messages to spam@me.com, although I'm not sure what good that will do as they claim marking the message as junk in Mail and the web interface essentially does the same thing.

maybe its because nothing would beat gmail's filters and Apple doesnt want to put out a second rate feature :)

My MobileMe email address was spam free for over two years until I created a FaceBook account. Within weeks I started getting about 6 spam emails a day, they come in threes, by the same sender so it's easy to block at least until tomorrow. Each day they change their email address so I have to block each group of three again.

In Mail.app, there is a setting for junk mail filtering. The default is set to mark messages as junk, but LEAVE IN THE INBOX. You just need to select "move it to the junk mailbox". And with the way imap works, that means you'll never see it on your mobile devices.

THANK YOU!!

Dont understand why this isn't the default setting :mad:

Thanks for the reply, newagemac, but I followed your instructions yesterday and since then I've received 5 of the usual spam messages on my iPhone. Wouldn't your suggestion only help if the Mac is awake and receives the messages before the iPhone?

Are you using an @me.com or @mac.com address? It may be that only Apple-hosted accounts are supported for IMAP by default. Or if it's another provider, like Gmail, perhaps you're accessing it in POP mode, not IMAP, in which case the filtering in Mail.app probably won't help you. Don't know if you can run your other provider in IMAP mode; not all support it.

Just a thought.

Yes, it's an @mac.com address. We're talking about iCloud, not the Mail application in general.

I think you missed the point. Or I am. If you rely on your Desktop MAIL.APP to handle SPAM Protection then you would need your Desktop MAIL.APP to process ALL NEW EMAIL FIRST. I.E. Before your iPhone get's the email. So if you SHUTDOWN your Desktop this would not happen and your iPhone would see the mail before the Desktop can process the mail. So the only real solution is for it to happen within iCloud "before" ANY mail clients see the mail.

Exactly. And iCloud isn't doing it's job properly for me, where MobileMe did. My only hope at this point is that once I have some new hardware (the new iPad arriving next week), Apple will actually have a conversation with me about iCloud's lack of spam filtering on my account and hopefully do something to resolve it.

Anyone who recently started using iCloud for email probably won't see much spam. Just wait a couple of years, though! Once your email address gets out there, it'll be compromised.

I use a catch-all email address for my domain. Google filters LOADS of spam with over 99.9% effectiveness.

I think people are losing sight of the issue here. There are some of us who've had an @mac.com address for a decade without being bombarded on a daily basis by spam. After we migrated to iCloud, suddenly it was as if there was no spam-filtering on the server side by Apple. We were spam-free until iCloud.
