I want to use iDVD on a new Mini and wonder if iDVD from my iLife 09 disc will load? I don't have the Mini yet. I assume the boxed iLife 11 with iDVD will load too?

When you connect an external DVD drive and put in a DVD movie lion will install iDVD.

hmmm, iDVD is not the DVD player, it is software to create and burn your own custom DVDs with menus. iDVD has been dropped by apple in 2011 Macs.

They mean that you have to get an external first as the new Mini's don't have an optical drive for DVDs to be loaded.

I know, I know. I have an ext DVD drive. actually usinf iDVD does not require a DVD drive or burner, technically, it is design software for DVD output...

my question is Only about the Apple software called 'iDVD', which was a part of iLIFE forever but has been dropped by Apple just recently. iWeb software has also been dropped by Apple.
anyone use iDVD on a new Mini???

idvd starts up fine (as well as dvd player) on the new mini. and i don't even have an optical drive connected. i assume it would burn ok on an external optical drive.

Some people are really slow!

I was unable to install iLife09 or 11 from DVD/ISO so I had to copy the package manually. I moved both iDVD and iWeb and I had to copy some themes for one of the packages. After that they both appear to run with no issues.

Hope this helps.

I'm slow, ...by moving, how'd you do it. copy the app in Finder or thru Time Machine? I have 09 iDVD on my current 2.0 C2D Mini.
please share the steps.
thanks, for getting and answering my question.

Yes I copied it from my 11 iMac so you should be able to do the same with your old mini.

No. You cannot install iDVD or iWeb on the new Minis. The only apps that can be used (sanctioned by Apple) are iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand. The rest are gone.

Yes. You can do like other people and mount the iLife '11 DVD and install the packages either manually, or using something like Pacifist. Be careful though, as you will likely need frameworks for them to work properly and could likely interfere with your system's stability if you just randomly start installing them. Then there may be also be the likelihood that some frameworks are installed, but have been updated and will no longer play nice with some elements of those programs (this is seen with the installation of Front Row).
