I just checked Apple's page for Panther. There's a blurb about iMovie 3, iPhoto 2, and iTunes 4 being the latest iApps and included with Panther.

When iLife 04 comes out, do you think Apple will update the Panther page and remove the "latest" tags, or will they include the rev 4 versions of iMovie and iPhoto?

I hope they update the Panther package. I would definately update to Panther for that. And it would make my procrastination worth it.

i believe so...

as one of the "features" of panther, iApps are listed. however, it does say iMovie 3 and iPhoto 2, etc... which are old versions.

i guess we won't know until next year or so when 10.4 is released.

it would be a bit disheartening to separate the OS X and iApps, though i can certainly see it happening. for many, many casual users, i think the appeal of OS X is due to iApps.

This is a good question maybe after apple sells out of their currently produced boxes of panther they will repack it but i'm not counting on it not until february at the least

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the retail box of Panther does NOT include iDVD, does it? Everthing else is mentioned on the web site, but not iDVD

no, at least i don't think so. iDVD "comes" with superdrive, not OS X, i thought... (although eMac with combo drive i purchased in nov. had iDVD installed, along with Panther...)

and if such is the case, there's a strong chance either:

1) OS X updates from now on will contain iLife but will be priced a bit higher

or

2) OS X updates will not contain iLife

either way, it kinda sucks.

I'd say Apple will wait and bundle iLife 04 with 10.4. By the time 10.4 comes out everyone that wanted iLife 04 will have already bought it.

It wouldn't be fair to those of use who bought Panther right away. Since those who waited would get iLife included. Bottom line: no, Panther will carry the old versions, you must buy iLife too.

Or you could just count it as $180 toward a new Mac. :D

I'm bringing this thread back from limbo.

I still haven't bought Panther because Jaguar works just fine on my iBook 500. However, if iLife '04 (minus iDVD and GB) comes with new boxes of Panther, I might upgrade.

Apple's page for 10.3 has confilciting information. One PAGE refers to iPhoto2, iMovie3 and iTunes4. The other PAGE has links to the new iLife apps (iPhoto4, iMovie4 and iTunes4.2).

I wonder what the newest boxes include.

Maybe Apple will update iLife every January. And update OS X every summer. That way, to keep up to date, you can either buy a new Mac or spend $180 every year. OUCH!

Except that what Apple actually did this time was announce the new OS in the summer but release it in the fall and release the new iLife in the early winter.

So if--and I don't really know--Apple's turnaround time for a new OS is about 14 months, that means the next one will be released in December. It would be idiotic to release it without the new iLife, since MWSF is only a few weeks later, but I wouldn't put it past them to do that anyway.

I have posted a similar reply in another thread, but I find it important to mention so thats why I'll repeat myself again..

Apple updates the OS every year or once in a 1 1/4 years or so.. so they ask me to pay another 120Euros (in Turkey with tax and everything) each year to keep my system up-to-date.. now you say that they may not (or may) include the iLife 04 in Panther, so it makes another 60 Euros..

so in total they make 180 Euros each year.. which makes a new Harddrive and a middle-line graphic card each year.. do we benefit from a OS update that much?? Sir I dont think so!!!

dont get me wrong, but I pay only 2-3 dolars for a copy of windoze in 1.5-2 years.. well, shall I reconsider buying a new Mac if they start taking apart iApps from MacOS?

I agree completely, but you'll probably get crucified by the apologists who claim you have no right to complain about the price of anything. I vote with my wallet, though. I have no need for iLife this year.

you will most likely get everything besides idvd, im not really sure how they will do garageband though.

I complain, because I LOVE APPLE! I want the best for people who I like and who I respect.. and I respect the work these folks accomplish!.. I want everything to be decent and "legal" when it is Apple in my life..

whatever.. I start talking like a mac-maniac once again.. forget about it... :(
