Just need to know if it will recognize all my windows based jpegs etc on windows formatted drive. If not, it has the ability to daisy chain a USB drive onto. If I plugged in a Mac formatted hard drive as a daisy chained hdd would it see this one?

Thanks.

If the drive is FAT32 you will be able to read and write in osx.

If it is NTFS you will still be able to see everything but can't modify without installing a (free) third party plugin.

Daisy chaining will not solve any format issues.

You should still be able to access the files and drag them onto a folder in your Mac (OSX).

If Windows is installed on your Mac as well, with the updated drivers you should be able to plug the drive into windows and drag and drop the files onto the OSX partition easily. (even transfer files from OSX to the drive).

Thanks for the prompt replies.

So if I daisy chain a USB Mac formatted drive onto the ntfs formatted wd my book via the back of it it would not work?

As far as I know there are
2 fw800 ports and only 1 USB port.

It's physically impossible to daisy chain them. You need a USB hub.

As far as your original question it is am issue of drive format, not how it's plugged in.

Even of you were able to daisy chain it would not solve the read/write restrictions of a drive that was not compatible.

A slower if rather inelegant solution that does not require reformatting is to use a NAS type device that would translate the drive operation.

The drive will work. So dont worry.
